"I will use my faith as a guiding light when I enter the career world after college," says Micayla Ross, a senior at the University of South Carolina – Columbia. "It will be there to guide me and remind me to stay humble, help others and always put my faith in God."
A member of Silver Hill United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Micayla describes her growing-up years as "very simple. My mom, dad and sister were all very supportive of everything I did." She was a successful student, involved in extracurricular activities.
Micayla gives The United Methodist Church a lot of credit.
"The church has served as a support system for my faith as well as my career," she says. "I have met many people within the church that have similar interests or the same career fields." Some have served as her mentors.
Working hard academically has sometimes meant missing out socially, she says.
"The joys that I had were doing well in school and making honors awards for school and orchestra," she says. "The challenges were balancing my time correctly. Sometimes, between school and other activities, I did not have much time for hanging out with friends."
Micayla plans to graduate in the spring of 2016.
She hopes "to enter the business world in either the management or marketing field and work for a Fortune 500 company."
She is grateful for the World Communion Scholarship.
"Receiving this scholarship changed my life," Micayla notes, "because it helped me to afford my education, which will, in turn, help me be more successful in the future."
