About 46% of all of the people infected with HIV are African American. United Methodist-affiliated Meharry Medical College and its Center for AIDS Health Disparities is focused on finding out why. The college is fusing research, community engagement, and partnerships with faith leaders to save lives through prevention programs.
"If we can get the leaders of the churches to engage in the HIV conversation, that's going to be really powerful given the reach they have in the community and how well they are respected by their members," said Meharry president Dr. James Hildreth.
