Judicial Council to hold oral hearing

Live streaming, media credentials available

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – The Judicial Council will hold a one-hour oral hearing at 9:00 a.m. C.T. on May 22, 2018, during their upcoming meeting on May 22-25 at the Hilton Orrington Hotel in Evanston, Illinois.

At the request of the Council of Bishops, a special meeting will be held to consider a petition for a declaratory decision regarding the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference. Livestreaming, provided by United Methodist Communications, will be available for the first time and will begin at 9 a.m. C.T. for the oral hearing. The oral hearing will be open to the public, with the live stream available at http://www.umc.org/who-we-are/judicial-council-special-session-webcast​.

Although the oral hearing is open to the public, media representatives must apply for media credentials either on-site or prior to the Judicial Council hearing. To request credentials, please complete and submit the application to [email protected].

Media credentials are required to receive access to media seating. To be accredited, individuals must represent a recognized news organization such as a newspaper, wire service, television or radio station, magazine or ongoing newsletter, or must serve as a communicator for a United Methodist agency, annual conference or other church entity. At on-site check-in, please provide a press ID, business card or other proof of status.

No recording of the proceedings by any device will be allowed and no live broadcasts of the proceeding, either video or audio, are permitted. Laptops, cell phones and other devices must be turned off during the proceedings. The only exception is that laptops may be used for notetaking purposes only. A pool photographer will take photos of the hearing; these photos may be obtained by contacting [email protected] or by calling 615-306-3401. Neither media nor observers may post to social media or text during the hearing.
