United Methodist Church Bishops mourn President Carter
The Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church joins the nation, the world, and millions of Christians in mourning the passing of President Jimmy Carter, a devoted Christian who embodied Jesus' teachings of unconditional love and compassion.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Carter family, holding them in prayer during this time of loss.
President Carter's life was a testament to his deep faith and commitment to serving others. As the 39th President of the United States, he demonstrated remarkable leadership, championing peace, human rights, and poverty eradication.
His selfless dedication to promoting fairness and justice globally, particularly through election monitoring, has left a lasting impact on nations where United Methodists reside.
We remember President Carter's tireless efforts to provide affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity, a ministry he deeply cherished. His commitment has inspired countless individuals, including hundreds of United Methodists. As Jesus noted in Matthew 25:40, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
President Carter's legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, reminding us that faith in action can transform lives and communities worldwide.
As we say farewell to this remarkable leader, we take comfort in the words of Matthew 25:23, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!”
