Join in a prayer of peace and hope as the United States inaugurates its next President.
Let us pray
Holy God,
Thank you for another day to live out the calling you’ve placed upon our lives. We praise you for the opportunity to show and receive love, extend and accept grace, and share the beautiful good news of Jesus Christ.
We come to you on a day filled with change. With a new U.S. President taking office, some are optimistic about what lies ahead, while others feel vulnerable and anxious.
We pray for a peaceful transition of power.
Even amongst much change on earth, we know that you do not change. Your steadfast love will always surround us, the Holy Spirit will always speak to us, and Jesus’ teachings will always guide us.
Lead us to have open hearts and open minds as we seek to narrow persistent political, racial and religious divides.
We ask that you will bring unity and understanding.
Comfort those on the margins and remind them of your omniscience.
Guide our leaders to make fair and just choices that will benefit each person and community.
Empower us to use our voices and actions to make the world a place where everyone can thrive.
Forgive us for our shortcomings and help us continue to grow on our journey of faith.
May this day and the months to follow be remembered by acts of peace, kindness, respect and empathy.
