Special Sundays are set aside each year to deepen the connection between the local church and ministries on a global scale. Individuals and congregations are encouraged to support the churches’ collective efforts through an offering. We invite you to help continue to support the vital work of the Special Sundays.
United Methodist Churches traditionally observe UMCOR Sunday on the fourth Sunday in Lent. However, congregations are encouraged to celebrate on a date that best suits their schedule. Resources to help you celebrate and promote this Special Sunday are available here.
The official dates for celebrating UMCOR Sunday during the current quadrennial season are:

WHAT IS UMCOR SUNDAY?
UMCOR Sunday seeks to increase awareness and support for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Gifts given on UMCOR Sunday play a vital role in enhancing the church's global humanitarian response because these funds cover UMCOR's administrative costs. This support ensures that 100% of donations given to UMCOR throughout the year can be directed toward on-the-ground relief and recovery efforts, allowing UMCOR to effectively respond to crises and provide assistance where it's needed most.
By investing in UMCOR's operations, we empower the church to mobilize resources quickly and efficiently, making a meaningful impact in communities affected by disaster and hardship around the world.
This ministry is achieved exclusively through your generosity. Last year, your generosity delivered almost 2 million dollars in support of UMCOR’s work to alleviate human suffering and advance hope and healing through these ministries:
- International Disaster Response efforts provide
assistance following natural or human-caused
disasters outside of the United States. Typical
emergency response efforts include the
distribution of food, hygiene supplies and
facilities, nonfood items, psychosocial
support and shelter. Learn more about
the ministry here. - U.S. Disaster Response works with annual conferences
in the United States to alleviate suffering caused
by disasters that strike within the United States
and its territories. In partnership with conference
level disaster response coordinators, UMCOR
journeys with affected communities throughout a
disaster’s cycle. Learn more about the
ministry here. - Global Migration provides relief and recovery
in the form of food aid, basic necessities,
and legal and transportation services
for vulnerable migrants and refugees.
Learn more about this ministry here. - Environmental Sustainability program seeks to
enhance the use of renewable energy,
particularly in disaster response and healthcare.
It works directly with churches to initiate
environmental projects in their communities
and collaborates with other United Methodist agencies
to achieve equitable net-zero emissions
by 2050. Learn more about the ministry here - Yambasu Agriculture Initiative strives to fulfill
the vision of the late Bishop John K. Yambasu,
who believed that African churches and
their communities can achieve self-sustainability
by optimizing agricultural resources. Through
grants and training, YAI mobilizes land and
human resources within the church to enhance
community livelihoods and long-term food
security. Additionally, the initiative aims to
strengthen the capacity of annual conferences
to achieve financial stability. Learn more
about the ministry here.
UMCOR’s goal is to assist vulnerable people affected by crisis or chronic need without regard to their nationality, race, religion or status. We believe all people have God-given worth and dignity.
One of the beautiful things about The United Methodist Church is that, together, we can accomplish far more than we could on our own. Our collective gifts help strengthen the ministry of UMCOR.
