United Methodist Student Day Spotlight

Editor's note: This story is part of a "Student Spotlight" for United Methodist Student Day. It is a profile of Aubyn Swigart, of Rocky Mountain College, on receiving a scholarship from the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.

Hi, I'm Aubyn Swigart. I am from Black Hawk, South Dakota, right outside of Rapid City, South Dakota. My church is Grace United Methodist Church in Peidmont, South Dakota. I have attended this church my entire life and now that I am in Billings, Montana, for school I attend Shiloh United Methodist Church and Faith Chapel.

This year I am a senior a Rocky Mountain College. In the spring, I will graduate with my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and also a Reading Specialist certification.

My future goals are to become a teacher and further my schooling by getting my Master's in Special Education. One of my other passions is sports – I would love to coach basketball or volleyball also. At Rocky Mountain College I have been apart of the volleyball team for the past four years. I also have been volunteering in Special Olympics the past four years at Rocky.

Receiving this scholarship has been such a blessing in allowing me to attend Rocky Mountain College. Being in athletics makes it very difficult to have a full-time job since school and athletics are a full-time job on their own. With this scholarship, though, so much stress has been lifted off my shoulders and I am beyond thankful for that, so thank you!

the Rev. Kim Woeste, Chaplain/Director of Spiritual Life and Church Relations Rocky Mountain College
