Wesley Theological Seminary seeks a Director for its distinguished Henry Luce III Center for the Arts and Religion. The Center works to promote, understand, and expand the interface between the artistic and the religious imagination. It’s resources include the Dadian Gallery, an artists-in-residence program, and an art studio. The Center also hosts special events for the community and outreach opportunities to promote the arts in the ministries of constituent churches. It offers courses in the visual and performing arts and integrates the arts into the Seminary’s overall curriculum. The Director will lead the work of the Center, will be committed to the church and the mission of the seminary, and will provide oversight and create quality, arts programming.

The Director will be responsible for:

1.   External-facing programming

  • Expand the reach of the Center through online programs
  • Develop resources for community engagement through the arts, especially for churches and other communities of faith

2.     Internal-facing programming

  • Build the strategic plan and fundraising outreach of The Luce Center in collaboration with the seminary administration, board, and faculty
  • Oversee The Center’s programs, including the Dadian Gallery, the studio, the artists-in-residence program, and the certification in Arts and Theology program.

3.   Teaching within the community

  • Provide vision and supervision of staff and artist-in-residence in using the arts to enrich and deepen the seminary’s education, worship, and community
  • Collaborate with the Dean to support the arts curriculum and integration of the arts into existing courses, with opportunities for teaching and course development
  • Advise students interested in pursuing religion and the arts as a specialization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree(s) in artistic and/or theological disciplines desired
  • Expertise in the practice of an artistic discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of theology and the arts
  • Significant skills in administration and program development
  • Previous fundraising and development experience
  • Demonstrated qualities of collegiality, creativity, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate
  • Commitment to the contribution of the arts to the life of faith, the ministries of the church, and the development of effective church leaders
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse communities (race/ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, age, theological perspectives)
  • Previous experience using online teaching platforms.

This is an administrative faculty position. Rank is open and determined by qualifications and experience. EEO/AA.
